Using Perplexity for research
30-minute hands-on tutorial on using Perplexity for research
You are warmly invited to a 30-minute hands-on workshop on how to use Perplexity as a practical research assistant, aimed especially at beginners who have not used the tool before. The session is designed to be simple, approachable, and directly useful for day-to-day research tasks.
Perplexity is an AI search and research tool that combines fast retrieval with cited sources, allowing researchers to explore papers, summarise documents, and ask structured follow-up questions.
In this session, we will:
- Walk through the basics of asking effective research questions in Perplexity and interpreting its cited answers.
- Practise follow-up questioning, using threads, and switching to research-focused modes (e.g., Academic/Web focus, Research Mode).
- Try a short workflow with a sample paper or report (upload → summarise → explore further) to see how Perplexity can support literature review and screening.
